Sometimes American Black Gospel Music takes you to places in the world where you have never been before.

The Rainbow Gospel Singers were invited by Dr. Chris Joda from Nigeria to give some workshops and concerts in Cameroon.

Dr. Joda pastors different churches all over the world, including one in LIMBE, Cameroon.

After the experience he had with Edith Casteleyn in LAGOS - Nigeria in 2003, he knew that the church in Cameroon needed a “spiritual boost” and hoped that the workshops and concert given by Edith and The Rainbow Gospel Singers would inspire the congregation.

At the end of May Edith, the band and a group of members of The Rainbow Gospel Singers made a very successful trip for one week. It was beautiful to see how universal the language of American Black Gospel Music is. The people who attended the workshops completely immersed themselves in the music and made the songs their own.

Cameroon is a poor country and people find a lot of strength in their faith. You could hear the enthusiasm in their voices; they live what they sing. And whereas the Dutch public are sometimes shy to clap along, here the whole church was dancing!

The workshops and final concert at the Buea University was also as huge celebration! With a surprise concert by the university choir who sang traditional African songs. American Black Gospel is rooted in the music of the African slaves and this brought the two together again in a special way.

In total we gave four workshops and five concerts in Cameroon and it was not only the people in Cameroon who were inspired, but also Edith, the band and The Rainbow Gospel Singers.
